The Voice

"Before time itself was measured, the Voice was speaking. The Voice was and is God." (John 1:1, The Voice) There is a lot of controversy when it comes to translating the Bible.  It's no easy task to find the balance between accuracy and accessibility.  Often I find people focus mainly on accuracy, but neglect the accessibility of the scripture.  If the translation is a word-by-word accurate translation, but I can't understand the words then accuracy means nothing. One of the newest translations is The Voice, published by Thomas Nelson Publishers and Ecclesia Bible Society.  The Voice is a New Testament translation which seeks to make the Bible more accessible to our post-modern culture. It accomplishes this by focusing on the overall narrative structure of the Bible.  Many of Jesus' teachings were in the form of stories or parables.  There's something to be said about this style of teaching.  The majority of us can understand stories far better than information in a systematic theology textbook. If you're looking for a way to invigorate your scripture reading, or for something that offers new perspectives check it out.  You can download a free copy of the Gospel of John here.

Knowing what the Word says about God's Will for us individually and corporately is an important tool that Holy Spirit can use to bring us to an understanding of how we can apply this tool to our lives. It gives us vision and order. Our priorities become His priorities and we are then able to sustain a life of prayer for our communities as He gives us endurance and patience with joy.
