Lest We Forget

by Jeremiah Smith,

I've often wondered about the mystery known as communion (or the Eucharist).  Sitting in a cafe a few days ago I was reminded of the passage where it says, "remember the LORD your God..." (Deut. 8:2).  In thinking about communion I realized that perhaps it is less a mystery and more a reminder.  Just as the passover celebration was to be a reminder of Gods faithfulness, so to is communion to be a reminder of Christs saving grace.  It is that place where we are consistently reminded of our past while being constantly reminded of a future made possible only through Christ.

Knowing what the Word says about God's Will for us individually and corporately is an important tool that Holy Spirit can use to bring us to an understanding of how we can apply this tool to our lives. It gives us vision and order. Our priorities become His priorities and we are then able to sustain a life of prayer for our communities as He gives us endurance and patience with joy.
